Skeptic News: TV 'spiritual healer' jailed for sexual assaults

37-year-old Alain Bhatupa, from Upper Edmonton, north London, has been jailed for nine years for sexually assaulting two women who went to him for help.

Bhatupa used the name The Prophet Alain as he promoted his services as a healer on satellite channel Religious Wonderful TV.

His spot on the station was seen by a 61-year-old woman, who went to him in August 2011 for help dealing with back pain Bhatupa examined her, sexually assaulted her, and then requested a ‘financial offering’ of £500. A second woman, aged 40, also arranged an appointment with Bhatupa after seeing him on television, she wanted treatment for a foot problem, but was sexually assaulted and asked for an ‘offering’ of more than £600.

Bhatupa was found guilty of three counts of digital penetration and two counts of sexual assault last month and, at a sentencing hearing today, given a nine-year prison sentence.
