The date passed the law Senate Bill 98 earlier this year. The law allows school boards to decide whether students should be able to write their own inspirational messages for school events, such as graduation or assemblies.
No adult intervention is allowed in the choice of the inspirational message and it can be non-religious as well.
However the Florida Association of School Boards is urging school leaders not to implement the measure. Fearing expensive litigation over issue of secularism and separation of church and state.
No school board has declared it will use the measure to allow school prayer and some commenters believe the move is purely political.
