Skeptic News: Vaccination Jihad

A cleric in Pakistan’s Punjab province has warned that a jihad would be launched against polio vaccination teams at a time when the World Health Organisation has expressed concern at the emergence of new cases of the disease across the country.

The Cleric Maulvi Ibrahim Chisti of Muzaffargarh declared the campaign to deal with polio through vaccination is “Un-Islamic” and announced that a jihad would be launched against World Health Organisation (WHO) officials and medics attempting to administer vaccinations. The Cleric believes that the vaccinations are poison and a Western Conspiracy to make the Muslim population impotent. His remarks drove the vaccination teams out of the city and as a result a police raid was conducted but  Cleric Maulvi Ibrahim Chisti had vanished before the authorities arrived. The vaccination team were able to implement the vaccination team.

The WHO are concerned about a spike of cases in Pakistan particularly in Northern tribal areas.
