Skeptic News: FBI arrest escaping chiropractor

The FBI have arrested a 62 year old chiropractor fearing he would flee to the Dominican Republic.

Joseph Wagner, of Daytona Beach, Florida, was aprehended earlier this week to face charges of  dispensing controlled substances and health care fraud and is now being held in the Orange County Jail.

The Wagner Chiropractic and Acupuncture Clinic was raided in August last year by the FBI and other federal agencies. Agents were seeking  evidence to show Wagner was dispensing controlled substances (specifically Xanax and Lortab) and defrauding insurance companies. The FBI took up the case after it transpired Wagner was billing insurance companies for treatments, medical and chiropractic, that patients had never actually received.

State Law usually prohibits chiropractors from prescribing and dispensing medications but Wagner used John Christensen’s Drug Enforcement Administration license to prescribe pain medication. Although Christensen denies giving Wagner permission to do so his medical license has been suspended.

The FBI arrested Wagner after he booked a trip to Santiago, Dominican Republic, for May 16 with  a one-way ticket.
