Skeptic News: Weeping Statues

A statue of the Hindu goddess Sarawati has reportedly started weeping in Bali.

It is said that the 10ft tall statue in a junior high school courtyard started weeping following an Earthquake that killed dozens. The school has been investigating the claims of students who claim to have seen the weeping and the headmaster is reported as saying he believes it is in fact crying real tears.

“We, the school, plan to ask for suggestions from paranormal experts to understand the phenomenon of the goddess Saraswati crying,”

In Hindu, Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and the arts. She embodies all that is pure and sublime in nature, dispelling the darkness of ignorance and rejecting all that is base and materialistic.

Weeping statues are a phenomenon more commonly associated with Catholicism and even the church itself is often skeptical of claims of miracles in this area and only a small number of weeping statues have been recognised as “genuine”.
