Yesterday a would be exorcist was sentenced to 30 years in prison for their role in the tragic death of a toddler.
Natasha Hawkins plead guilty to her role in aiding the battery that caused the death of the 2-year-old child Jezaih Lawson whose body was discovered stuffed in a plastic tote more than a year after his death.
He died as a result of an exorcism performed by Hawkins and the boys mother Latisha Lawson as they believed the child was possessed. The women had gathered all their children in the living room of their apartment and given each a concoction of olive oil and vinegar. The older children threw up after drinking the mix, but Jezaih fought every effort to get him to swallow it, according to testimony.
According to court documents, Hawkins held the toddler’s legs and said a prayer while Latisha Lawson poured it down his throat, holding his mouth closed so he couldn’t spit it out. Jezaih died from what was later determined to be asphyxia by compression to his neck.
Before she was sentenced, Hawkins said she was truly sorry and remorseful.
Latisha Lawson, who admitted killing her two-year-old son in an attempt to rid him of demons, has already been sentenced to 62 years in prison.
